The BEST Chicken Chili
If you’re not new around here and have seen my recipe for sweet potato pie (the perfect sweet potato pie, in my opinion), then you know that words like “perfect” and “best” hold a lot of weight in my book. Those are not words that I just throw around, so when I claim that something is the best, in my humble opinion, it is the best. And that is what this chicken chili is.
Ree Drummond’s Tres Leches Cake
Tres leches cake was first introduced to my family ten years ago when one of my cousins, who happens to be a chef, made it for Easter dessert. A few years later, still dreaming about that delicious cake, my mom and I stumbled upon this recipe in one of my cookbooks. It’s absolutely fabulous. It’s creamy and decadent and moist and just all the things you never knew you needed in cake form but will suddenly require after trying this. I’ve made it multiple times, and it’s unbelievably simple. Cut into square and serve at your next family gathering or grab a fork and start chowing down - no judgment here. And, if you end up trying this recipe and loving it, then you can thank one of my former college roommates, Jessica, for asking me to post this on here for you all.
Grandma Eleanor’s Golumpkis (Gołąbki)
Pronounced “gawumpkis,” this Polish comfort food has been the main course for most of my dad’s birthdays. My grandma would make them especially for him every year and, although the not-so-adventurous palette of a young Sarah was not the hugest fan, adult Sarah adores them and cannot wait to share them with you.
Grandma Eleanor’s Chicken Noodle Soup, 2.0
My dad’s mom, my Grandma Eleanor, makes the best chicken noodle soup. It is the perfect thing to have when you are feeling under the weather. But, it’s not your run of the mill chicken noodle soup. First, she adds crushed, whole tomatoes. They add a different flavor, obviously, but when you aren’t feeling well it is a welcomed hit of vitamin C. Also, she adds bay leaves. My grandmother loves bay leaves, she claims it is because she’s Polish and that was a staple in all of her mother’s cooking, but whatever the reason, bay leaves add something that is hard to identify but you know is missing when it’s not there.
Aunt Ruth’s Oatmeal Cookies
My Great Aunt Ruth is well known in my family for quite a few recipes, but one of the most well-loved by most members of my family are her oatmeal cookies. They are lacy and caramelized and crunchy and TO DIE FOR! They are a staple in my family’s Christmas cookie repertoire and my absolute favorite oatmeal cookie.
The PERFECT Sweet Potato Pie
Okay, so let me begin by saying that I don’t throw the word perfect around with food lightly. If I’m labeling something as such, it is truly perfect, in my opinion. Now that we have that out of the way let me tell you how I developed this recipe (something I don’t often do, but I’m dabbling in) and how to make, what I deem to be, the perfect sweet potato pie.
