Fix My Eyes

So, here we are. 2021 is upon us. Finally, it has arrived. I know some of you feel like a weight has been lifted, while others feel as though the world is still on your shoulders. However, sisters (and brothers), I come to you tonight with a relatively simple message that I am equally saying to myself as I’m saying it to you: fix your eyes on Jesus.

In this new year, may your gaze be fixed upon our Lord. Because no matter what kind of wind and waves, we are in the midst of, Jesus is there, and we can get through it if we keep our eyes on him. But, we all know what happened to Peter when he looked away: he sank. So, let’s start this year and make it a habit to remain focused on the one who makes life worth living. And, believe me, this is something that I am saying to myself. I am far too quick to resort to doing things my way, prioritizing sleep over quiet time with the Lord, and continually praying for what I want without asking what God wants for me. But, I’m committing myself to get to know my Lord better; I want 2021 to be the year that I fall even more in love with my Abba Father (or Papa, as a girl I went to high school referred to him).

The first way I’m doing this is by truly committing to reading the Bible, in its entirety, this year. My dad does this every year, and I decided to join him (as did my whole family). We are following the Chronological order of the books of the Bible, which there are reading plans for on the Bible app. But, I’m also committing to reading aloud one passage of Scripture every day for the whole year. I’m using the Bible 2021 plan on the Bible app if you want to join me.

Now, I get that bloggers, Christian influencers, pastors, etc., encourage you to do the same thing every year. But do you know why? Reading the Bible is the only way you get to know the Lord. Like, genuinely get to know him. And how can we claim we love the Lord if we don’t know him? That’s like claiming to love a person that you have never met or spent time with or even exchanged correspondence. It can’t be real. Now, I’m not trying to say that you can’t claim you love the Lord if you don’t read your Bible daily. But, I do want to make my point clear. If we truly love the Lord, the excuses need to stop. We can make the time to spend with the Lord because whatever we are claiming is in the way (sleeping in later, going to bed sooner, commitments, whatever). None of it is as important as a deep relationship with Jesus, and I would bet a lot of money that you have at least 10 minutes to read (or listen to) your Bible and spend that time with God. And remember, I’m guilty of this, too. I have been lazy in my faith as of late, and 2021 is the year that comes to an end.

So, how about you? Will you join me on this journey to get to know my Lord and Savior more this year? Will you take the time to draw closer to our Heavenly Father? I hope you will, and I look forward to sharing the journey with you on this blog over the next year.

Blessings and a Happy New Year,

Sarah
